Health Canada recalls
Black & Decker Coffee Makers Due to Burn Hazard
The coffeemaker can overheat or melt, posing a burn
hazard to consumers.
There have been approximately 46 reports of melting or
fire, with 16 having alleged property damage.

Wal-Mart Announces Recall Expansion of
Durabrand DVD
Players Due to Fire Hazard:
Hazard: The DVD
player’s circuit board can overheat, posing a fire and
burn hazard to consumers. Wal-Mart has received 14
reports of DVD players overheating, seven of which have
resulted in fires that caused property damage.

Some Kenmore and Frigidaire stoves recalled:
Depending on the model, the surface heating elements
can:
1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on;
2) fail to turn off after being switched off;
3) heat to different temperatures than those selected by
unit controls.
These situations pose risks of fire and burns to users.

Pur-Lite Compact Florescent
Lights:
Several fire departments across
the country have received consumer complaints about
Pur-Lite 15 watt CFLs smoking and even catching fire.
Most reports state that these light bulbs were purchased
at Canadian Tire. These potentially dangerous episodes
have been reported to the CSA. |

Chicago
Electric 500 Watt Halogen Shop Light:
These lights may overheat and pose a risk of fire and
electrical shock.
Consumers should stop using these lights
Immediately. |

Danby Dehumidifier:
Danby Products Limited of Guelph, Ontario, announces the
voluntary recall in Canada of approximately 19,500 units
of model SDR204 dehumidifier. Danby has received four
(4) reports of incidents of concern, one of which may
include an alleged fire. The internal wiring can
short-circuit and ignite, posing a fire hazard since the
plastic enclosure may not meet the flame test
requirements of the appropriate safety standard. No
injuries have been reported. |

Kenmore and Kenmore Elite Coffee Makers:
The wiring in the coffee maker can overheat, posing burn
and fire hazards to consumers. Sears has received 20
reports of coffee makers overheating, including 12
fires, causing damage to counter tops, cabinet damage,
and plastic melting on the floor. No injuries have been
reported. This recall involves 12-cup Kenmore coffee
makers sold in black, white, and red with the following
model numbers: 100.80006 (black), 100.81006 (white), and
100.82006 (red). The recall also involves 12-cup Kenmore
Elite coffee makers with thermal carafe (model number
100.90007) and 14-cup Kenmore Elite coffee makers (model
number 100.90006). |

Kenmore Wall Ovens:
During extended broiling, gas can build in the oven
cavity and escape when the oven door is opened. This
poses a burn and possible fire hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: Electrolux
has received 16 reports of incidents involving gas
build-up, including flames escaping from the oven door,
burns to the hands and face and singed hair. |

IMS Car Chargers used with
Halogen Spotlights:
The car charger is incompatible with the spotlight's
battery, which can cause it to overcharge inside a
vehicle and pose a fire or burn hazard to consumers. IMS
has received two reports of incidents of spotlights
overheating while being charged with the car charger. No
injuries have been reported.
The recalled 12V DC car charger
was sold with the Power Systems Plus/UST 3 Million
Candlepower Spotlight with model number HSLR30S. The
spotlight is black and blue and has a sticker on each
side that reads "3 Million Candle Power." "HSLR30S" is
printed on the instruction manual and on the packaging. |
